The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has suspended 41 of its members over misconduct.
The members were suspended over anti-party activities and disobeying the directives of the party.
The Publicity Secretary of the APC in
the state, Mr. Ita Awak, told journalists in Uyo , on Wednesday, that
the affected members created a parallel party organ.
He said the suspended members included
former council chairmen of Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene, Obot Akara, Onna,
Uyo, Etim Ekpo, Ibiono Ibom, Itu, and Ini local government areas.
He
said others included a former deputy chairman of the party in Nsit Ibom
Local Government Area, former youth leaders in Ini and Nsit Ibom, among
others.
He said the conducts of the affected members contravened Section 21 (ii-vii) of the party’s constitution as amended.
Awak said this during a meeting of the state executive committee of the party.
He said, “Following the submission of
the report of the disciplinary committee of the APC, Akwa Ibom State,
and upon the ratification and consideration of the said report, the
party found the accused capable of allegations levelled against them.
“The allegations include anti-party
activities, disobedience in carrying out lawful directives of the party,
giving wrong information to organs of the party, factionalising and
creating a parallel party organ, among others.”
